The Nest once full ~

Nest eggs - 10 x 12" Oil on canvas

This is dedicated to one of my own nest-dwellers, celebrating his 23rd birthday today!
Happy Birthday Travis! (#11)

Some months back, I posted a couple smaller paintings of empty nests. Now, I've painted a larger (yet similar) painting of a nest with eggs. In so many ways, this set of 3 has become a metaphor for my journey of motherhood - and in some ways - of my life! My own three children have been so very significant in my life, and now as they are growing older - leaving "the nest"- it is a time of great transition. I'm learning to readjust - to embrace my changed role as mom of adult children! Their significance is not at all diminished - but the requirements are quite different!

Helen,
You have once again captured my heart! I love, love, love this painting. My friend called me this afternoon ecstatic over the painting she won in your give away! I will be going over soon to visit and I will take photos and post them so you can see it on display.

Oh Helen this is so beautifully said, and your painting as always is amazing. Motherhood is wonderful, as I am discovering just now. Anna :)

Sandy, Maria, and Anna - Thank you so much! This painting is special to me too - just because of what it signifies! Being a mom is - to date - my highest calling! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this as well!

Hi Helen, I left a comment on Facebook about this painting but I'll reiterate it here. I love the lighting in this one, so dramatic. It's very appropriate, even as our children leaving home is a dramatic moment in our lives.
