Front and Center - Coneflower, 8x8" Oil on canvas
Continuing with my botanical theme - here is a small painting ... painted around the sides of the canvas. I took photos several weeks ago of these flowers - I was especially attracted to the pattern of the center, and of course the colors are quite beautiful! And - here was a little surprise to me .... there was a ring of tiny flowers (bright yellow) within the prickly part of the center! One of the ways that the viewer is rewarded for looking deeper into the "common place" of God's botanical world! There was some incongruence about the center with the two extremes of prickles and tiny flowers within!
With this one, I feel that I've broken some of the "rules" of composition by placing everything very centered as I have - and yet, it is all that made sense with this one!

Hey, that's GREAT Helen! Even tho you've placed it front and center the way you've arranged the petals help to relieve the head-on look and give it a more relaxed look.Sometimes "breaking the rules" is called for!I really like it!
I really appreciate how you've seen the center of the the coneflower as God's reward for looking deeper at something so common. That is a very profound thought.

Beautiful! I like the little bit of sunshine around the center.
thank you, Michelle, Mary, Cindy, and Sandy! Your encouragement is so appreciated! I really like how this one turned out too! :)
Wow, beautiful colors, and I like the way you really zeroed in on the center.
Very Nice Helen.
I agree with Mary on the arrangement
of the petals and the center....it works!
