As a feature each month, I've been offering a small painting at a fraction of its normal selling price. In the past 2 months since I've started this practice, its seemed to be a very popular idea with everyone!  These small paintings have sold quickly and those who have purchased them got a great price on a small original. 

This painting was one I did with Virtual Paintout.  A place somewhere on earth is given each month and using Google Maps, we find a place and paint!   This one comes from the area of Fairbanks, AK,
a beautiful wooded country road with a few small flowers in bloom along the roadside.

Still feels like summer!  So, I'm reposting this little still life.  Today starts the first day of the new school year - so I'm off to work again!

Gardening - it has its rewards!  My tomatoes aren't quite here yet (this year)... but it won't be too long!

Dusty Landscape

This was an experiment.  I've never worked with suede pastel paper before. What started as one thing turned into another.  Suede paper is highly texturized.  Therefore, this acrylic painting is also highly texturized.  I don't think this photograph does it justice.  The colors actually are muted and dusty, but in person they are more vibrant than it seems here.  My typical scanning of the painting wasn't adequate either - because of the texture, it didn't really capture the color correctly.  The digital camera I used also didn't record the color very well.  But, here it is anyway! 

While the painting looks good in its finished form, painting on suede paper was rather difficult. 

I may have to alter my technique --- or just use it for pastels!

Four years ago I started this blog.  I'm not sure how many paintings I've done since then ~ hundreds I think!  But its interesting to look back and see what I was doing in the month of August in each of the last 4 years.  I've just returned from out of town and am working on some new things which I will post very soon!  In the meantime, enjoy looking back with me!
