Sunflowers in a Blue Jar

I've had several requests for this painting, but it was not painted in a saleable format. But, now - it's available as a beautifully printed Giclee print!
Print is 5x7" and matted in white for a 8x10" frame.

A Giclee Print is a true to color, professionally printed image on paper that is the same weight and texture as watercolor paper. It's very hard to tell the original from the print! But the pricing on prints is much less than an original painting. I've just posted Sunflowers in a Blue Jar on my website.

This print can be sold matted or
matted and framed.

Trinity

Trinity, 7x5" oil on gesso panel
©Helen C Read

SOLD

It is said that the Iris symbolizes wisdom, hope, trust, and also the Trinity.
They are a hardy flower, and sometimes bloom in unexpected places.  As a child, living on a ranch in northern Texas, I remember finding a stand of purple iris in bloom in a distant pasture.  It had once been the site of a homestead, now just a chimney remaining, some 40 years or more burned down. Yet, the iris flowers continued to faithfully bloom.  A lovely surprise amidst dust and rocks, scrub and cactus.

Where Woods and Marsh Meet - Watercolor landscape

 Lincoln Marsh Woods
5.5 x 7.5" watercolor on paper
Matted in White for an 8x10" frame
© Helen Read

This is a very intriguing place in a nearby forest preserve.  Just to the left side is where the marsh takes over - long cat tails that rise up and dance in the wind.  And a somewhat foreboding woods that leans over toward the marsh on the right side.  I am drawn back to this spot many times hiking and sketching... I love the tall trees as they seem to reach toward the wetlands.

Available framed or unframed.

Sunflowers ~ For Relief in Ukraine!

 Sunflowers

I, like so many who love freedom, have been distressed by the world events centered in Ukraine.
It's been heartbreaking to see the suffering, the flight in fear, and now the many refugees who have had to flee their homes and lives because of brutal injustice.
How can I help, so far away - not knowing anyone there - yet knowing there are needs.

But, there are opportunities to give for relief to those who have left everything behind, to help provide food and shelter and comfort to families uprooted and without resources.

By selling these sunflower paintings, I will gladly give all the profits to provide for that help. Click the links below to be taken to the sales page, and besides receiving a beautiful painting, you'll also be helping those so much in need!

Riverside Landscape

I started this painting a year or so ago... and I wasn't happy with the outcome.  It took awhile.  I needed to sit with it - look at it - decide what it needed and what wasn't working about it.  I adjusted some things:  color temperature to get to a better place of color harmony.  Some values needed to be adjusted. And a few compositional changes needed to be made, which allowed me to add some textures especially in the foreground.

Reworking a painting can be a daunting task.  But I think the outcome was worth the effort.  Shown below in it's frame.

How to Upgrade an Inexpensive Canvas

Lately I've been recording some studio tips for artists.
This is one that will be helpful to painters!

This quick studio tip will be helpful, particularly if you love to paint. I've made canvases and bought them - paid little and a lot for them. And the quality can be quite varied. If you've ever been disappointed with the quality of a canvas, this short video can help!

You'll need a canvas, gesso (liquitex makes the gesso you'll see in the video), a hardware store paint brush, and a softer brush that is not a bristle brush (available in art supply stores), medium sand paper and fine steel wool.  The process is not too lengthy, and you'll be happy with a much smoother surface on which to
paint.
